Mr. Patrick Mwai Muchai

Mr. Patrick Mwai is a public health communication and advocacy specialist with over 12 years’ experience. He is currently the Regional Director-International Collaboration for Essential Surgery He has worked with both local and International organizations namely; Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO), Pathfinder International, The Global Campaign for Microbicides at PATH International and also as a HIV prevention Advocacy fellow with the AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition (AVAC). Patrick also served as the Community Advisory Board chair (2009-2010) at the Kenya Medical Research Institute-University of Washington (KEMRI-UW), Kilifi in a HIV vaccine study focusing on male sex workers along the Kenyan Coast.

 

 

His major advocacy work has focused on HIV/TB prevention, care and treatment, sexual reproductive health and rights, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, public health communication and working with key populations at risk of HIV infection.
Prior to joining the International Collaboration for Essential Surgery, Patrick was the Regional Advocacy Officer-East, Central and Southern Africa with the Global Alliance for Surgical Obstetric, Trauma and Anaesthesia Care (G4 Alliance). He has also been an advocacy consultant with the Kenya Medical Women’s Association (KMWA) and later on a communications consultant for the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA-Africenter).Patrick is a MPH candidate at the University of Nairobi. He holds a BA in Sociology and Communication from the same university and a Diploma in Management of Information Systems from Strathmore University.
